Google Ads for HVAC Companies 2026: Emergency AC Repair Clicks Cost $79. Costs by Service, Budget and Setup
$79.30. That is what one click on "emergency ac repair" costs in the US on average. Not a booked job, not even a phone call - one click. Plain "ac repair", searched 368,000 times a month, averages $46.46. HVAC is one of the priciest local service niches on Google Ads, and the companies that profit know exactly which clicks they buy.
Below: what HVAC clicks cost in the US and the UK by service, why the UK market runs on boilers, how to turn a budget into leads, and how to set up campaigns, negatives and tracking so you pay for searches that become jobs. Every CPC comes from our own Keyword Planner pull from October 2026.

In the US, an HVAC click costs roughly $15-80 depending on the service: "emergency ac repair" averages $79.30, "ac repair" $46.46, "hvac repair" $34.77, while "ac installation" is $25.43 and "ductless mini split installation" $15.14. The UK is far cheaper and boiler-driven: "boiler installation" $19.57, "new boiler" $16.62, "boiler service" $8.68. Installation and maintenance clicks cost less than urgent repair clicks but lead to bigger tickets or recurring service plans, so they deserve their own budget. Split campaigns by service and urgency, shift budget between cooling and heating with the seasons, track every call, and switch to smart bidding only after conversions are measured properly.
What HVAC clicks cost in the US, by service
The US numbers fall into four groups, each needing a different approach.
- Urgent repair - the most expensive. "emergency ac repair" ($79.30), "ac repair near me" ($46.82), "ac repair" ($46.46) and "hvac repair" ($34.77). Someone whose AC died on a hot afternoon calls the first company that answers, so everyone bids. The emergency term costs about 1.7 times plain "ac repair".
- Installation and replacement - cheaper per click, bigger ticket. "ac installation" ($25.43), "heat pump installation" ($24.21), "hvac installation" ($22.23), "furnace installation" ($22.09) and "ductless mini split installation" ($15.14). A system replacement is the largest job most HVAC companies sell, so one won job carries the cost of many clicks.
- Maintenance and cleaning - recurring revenue. "hvac maintenance" ($30.62) and "air duct cleaning" ($24.41). A tune-up customer can turn into a maintenance plan that renews every year and puts you first in line when the system fails. Duct cleaning attracts price shoppers, so give it its own campaign.
- Broad and job-seeker searches. "hvac near me" ($28.69, 165,000 searches) and "hvac company" ($22.17) mix every kind of intent. "hvac jobs" at $3.72 is the cheapest term on the list and useless for leads - those 27,100 monthly searches come from technicians looking for work.
| Search term (US) | Searches/mo | Avg CPC | Top-of-page bid range |
|---|---|---|---|
| emergency ac repair | 14,800 | $79.30 | $28.69-$129.91 |
| ac repair near me | 201,000 | $46.82 | $13.98-$100.00 |
| ac repair | 368,000 | $46.46 | $16.09-$100.00 |
| air conditioning repair | 368,000 | $46.46 | $16.09-$100.00 |
| hvac repair | 74,000 | $34.77 | $17.76-$97.73 |
| hvac maintenance | 49,500 | $30.62 | $12.61-$65.85 |
| hvac near me | 165,000 | $28.69 | $10.87-$80.17 |
| furnace repair | 201,000 | $28.38 | $10.55-$68.76 |
| ac installation | 49,500 | $25.43 | $6.51-$52.01 |
| air duct cleaning | 90,500 | $24.41 | $7.12-$32.99 |
| heat pump installation | 22,200 | $24.21 | $4.60-$44.90 |
| hvac installation | 22,200 | $22.23 | $8.08-$61.21 |
| hvac company | 74,000 | $22.17 | $10.97-$74.71 |
| furnace installation | 27,100 | $22.09 | $6.28-$43.09 |
| ductless mini split installation | 22,200 | $15.14 | $3.02-$25.47 |
| hvac jobs | 27,100 | $3.72 | $0.20-$4.51 |
"ac repair" and "air conditioning repair" show identical figures because Google groups close variants - treat them as one market. And these are 12-month averages: AC terms peak in summer and furnace terms in winter, so expect to pay above average in peak weeks.
The UK market: boilers first, heat pumps on the rise
UK homes mostly run on gas boilers, and the data shows it. The most expensive UK terms are "boiler installation" ($19.57) and "new boiler" ($16.62) - a boiler replacement is the big ticket. "emergency boiler repair" costs $13.54 and "boiler repair" $9.99. "boiler service" is only $8.68 but has 14,800 searches a month, the most of any boiler term in our pull. The annual service is the cheapest way to win a household that calls you again when the boiler breaks.
Heat pumps are the segment to watch. "air source heat pump" is the highest-volume term on the UK list at 33,100 searches a month, at $5.27 - much of it early research. "heat pump installation" is closer to a buying decision and costs $13.04. Air conditioning barely matters: "air conditioning installation" costs $3.17, about a sixth of "boiler installation". "heating engineer" ($4.75) and "central heating repair" ($4.86, 320 searches) are cheap but small.
Across five markets, the comparison keyword is AC installation in each local language. Keep in mind that cooling is a core product in the US and a niche one in most of Europe.
| Country | Keyword | Avg CPC |
|---|---|---|
| US | ac installation | $25.43 |
| UK | air conditioning installation | $3.17 |
| Germany | klimaanlage einbauen | $1.40 |
| Poland | montaż klimatyzacji | $1.12 |
| Ukraine | установка кондиционера | $0.58 |
An AC installation click in the US costs about 8 times as much as in the UK and about 44 times as much as in Ukraine. For the full picture across niches, see our Google Ads CPC by country breakdown.
Budget math: what $3,000 a month buys
The formula is simple: budget ÷ CPC = clicks; clicks × conversion rate = leads; budget ÷ leads = cost per lead. The conversion rate below is an illustrative assumption, not data: we use a conservative range of 5-15%, meaning 1 in 20 to 1 in 7 clicks becomes a call or form. Replace it with your own rate once tracking is in place.
| $3,000/month on... | Clicks | Leads at 5% / 10% / 15% | Cost per lead |
|---|---|---|---|
| "ac repair" at $46.46 | about 65 | 3.2 / 6.5 / 9.7 | $929 / $465 / $310 |
| "furnace repair" at $28.38 | about 106 | 5.3 / 10.6 / 15.9 | $568 / $284 / $189 |
For "ac repair": $3,000 ÷ $46.46 = 64.6 clicks. At an assumed 10%, that is 6.5 leads, and $3,000 ÷ 6.5 = about $465 per lead. Notice that cost per lead is just CPC ÷ conversion rate, so better landing pages and call handling cut it as surely as lower bids.
Now compare that with what a lead is worth to you. If your average repair job is worth $X and you book a certain share of the calls (take that number from your call log or CRM), the most you can pay per lead is roughly X × booking rate × your margin. For installations and maintenance plans the math changes: cheaper clicks, larger tickets, and plan customers who pay every year. A cost per lead that hurts on a repair can be very profitable on a replacement. Run your own numbers through our ROI, ROMI and ROAS calculator.
Campaign structure that works for HVAC
- Separate campaigns by service and urgency. At minimum: emergency and repair, installation and replacement, maintenance and tune-ups, duct cleaning. In the UK: boiler repair, boiler installation, boiler service, heat pumps. Separate budgets mean a $79.30 emergency click never eats the installation budget.
- Shift budget with the seasons. Push cooling campaigns in summer and furnace or boiler campaigns in winter, and use spring and autumn for tune-ups and maintenance plans, when crews have spare capacity.
- Target only your service area. Use the radius or postcodes your vans actually cover, with "presence" targeting, not "presence or interest".
- Schedule by urgency. Run emergency ads 24/7 only if someone answers at 2 a.m.; installation and maintenance can follow office hours. Our ad schedule analysis guide shows how to find your profitable hours.
- Make it easy to call. Add call assets everywhere and test call-only ads on mobile for emergency and repair terms.
- One landing page per service. "ac repair" goes to an AC repair page with your phone number on top, "heat pump installation" to a heat pump page with financing options. Not to the homepage.
- Add Local Services Ads where available. In the US, UK and Canada, LSA puts you above the regular ads and charges per lead instead of per click. Run it alongside Search, not instead of it.
- Smart bidding comes last. Target CPA or Maximize conversions only work once calls and forms are tracked correctly.
Negative keywords: a starter list for HVAC
Remember "hvac jobs" at $3.72: cheap and worthless for a contractor. Job seekers, DIY homeowners and parts buyers drain an HVAC budget fast. Start with this list and grow it from your search terms report:

The "car", "auto", "truck" and "rv" negatives matter more than they look: "ac repair" also attracts drivers with a broken car air conditioner. For the full method, read our negative keywords guide.
Tracking: calls are your real leads
Most HVAC leads arrive by phone. If you only count forms, Google Ads sees a fraction of your results. Set up three layers:
- Call tracking - calls from ads, call assets and the website, with a minimum call duration so wrong numbers do not count as leads. See our call tracking guide.
- Form tracking - quote requests and booking forms as separate conversions.
- Booked jobs - import which leads became paying jobs (and their value) from your CRM, so bidding learns the difference between a $79.30 click that booked a system replacement and one that asked for a price and hung up. Our enhanced conversions for leads guide explains the setup.
Common mistakes we see in HVAC audits
- One campaign for every service, so emergency repair, installation and duct cleaning compete for the same budget.
- The same budget all year, with no shift between cooling and heating seasons.
- No negative keywords, so job seekers and DIY searches eat the budget.
- Calls not tracked at all, or every call counted as a lead, including existing customers and suppliers.
- Broken or duplicated conversion tracking feeding smart bidding wrong signals.
- All ads sending traffic to the homepage instead of a page for the service searched.
- Emergency ads running overnight with nobody answering the phone.
Do not switch on Target CPA or Maximize conversions while conversion tracking is broken. With clicks at $30-80, smart bidding chasing the wrong signal burns money fast.
Before each cooling or heating season, review last season's search terms, add new negatives and check that the phone is staffed for the hours your emergency ads run.
FAQ
How much does Google Ads cost for HVAC companies?
In the US, according to our October 2026 data, the average click costs $79.30 for "emergency ac repair", $46.46 for "ac repair" and $25.43 for "ac installation". In the UK, "boiler installation" averages $19.57 and "boiler service" $8.68.
Is Google Ads worth it for HVAC?
It can be: HVAC searchers need a service now, and installations are large tickets. It pays off when campaigns are split by service, negatives block job seekers and DIY traffic, and calls are tracked back to booked jobs.
What budget do I need for HVAC Google Ads?
Work backward from CPC. $3,000 a month buys about 65 "ac repair" clicks or about 106 "furnace repair" clicks. With an assumed 10% conversion rate, that is roughly 6-11 leads. If that is too few, narrow the area or the service list rather than spreading the budget thin.
Should I bid on emergency AC repair keywords?
Only if you can answer the phone and send a technician fast, at the hours your ads run. At $79.30 per click, an emergency call that goes to voicemail is the most expensive mistake in the account.
How should HVAC companies handle seasonality?
Run cooling and heating as separate campaigns and move budget as the weather changes: AC in summer, furnace or boiler work in winter, tune-ups in spring and autumn.
