Google Ads for Roofers 2026: Roof Repair Clicks Cost $41, Storm Damage $47. Costs, Budget and Setup
$47.01. That is the average cost of one click on "storm damage roof repair" in the US, according to our Keyword Planner pull from October 2026. A plain "roofer" search costs $22.79. That gap is the whole story of Google Ads for roofers: the closer a search is to water coming through the ceiling, the more it costs - and the more it is worth to you.
Below: what roofing clicks cost in the US and the UK, which searches are worth paying for, what a lead costs once you do the math, and how to build an account that pays for damaged roofs, not job seekers and DIY researchers.

In the US, core searches like "roofer" and "roofing contractor" cost $21.08-24.77 per click. Repair, leak and inspection searches cost $32.58-40.95, and "storm damage roof repair" tops the list at $47.01. In the UK similar searches cost $4.93-7.48. At $40.95 per click and an assumed 1 in 10 clicks becoming a call or form, a US repair lead costs about $410 - which can still pay, because roofing jobs are large tickets; check it against your own average job value. Split campaigns by service and urgency, track calls, block job seekers, and use smart bidding only once conversions are tracked.
What roofing clicks cost in the US, by search
The US data falls into four clear groups.
- Urgent repair searches cost the most. "Storm damage roof repair" ($47.01), "roof repair" ($40.95), "roof leak repair" ($34.77) and "flat roof repair" ($32.58). These people have a problem right now. "Roof repair" costs about 1.8 times as much as "roofer" ($40.95 vs $22.79) and has 74,000 searches a month.
- High-value project searches are next. "Roof inspection" ($34.78), "roof replacement" ($30.63) and "shingle roof replacement" ($23.88). Inspections often lead to a repair or replacement, so advertisers bid on them almost as hard as on leaks. "Gutter installation" ($29.57) is a natural add-on.
- Core "find me a roofer" searches are the middle. "Roofer near me" ($24.77, 165,000 searches), "roofing company" ($23.03), "roofer" ($22.79) and "roofing contractor" ($21.08). Average: $22.92. Huge volume, mixed intent: some need a repair today, some are collecting quotes for next spring.
- Research and job-seeker searches are cheap for a reason. "New roof cost" ($18.02) and "metal roofing" ($8.58) are research-stage: people comparing materials and prices. "Roofing jobs" ($5.68) is someone looking for work, not a roof. "Roof repair" costs almost 5 times as much as "metal roofing" because advertisers know which one turns into paid jobs.
| Search (US) | Searches/mo | Avg CPC | Top-of-page bid range | Intent |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| storm damage roof repair | 3,600 | $47.01 | $9.80-$56.52 | Urgent |
| roof repair | 74,000 | $40.95 | $14.88-$68.64 | Urgent |
| roof inspection | 33,100 | $34.78 | $15.54-$72.93 | High-value |
| roof leak repair | 33,100 | $34.77 | $11.97-$62.40 | Urgent |
| flat roof repair | 4,400 | $32.58 | $9.94-$55.00 | Urgent |
| roof replacement | 33,100 | $30.63 | $15.00-$73.29 | High-value |
| gutter installation | 40,500 | $29.57 | $8.71-$70.57 | Add-on service |
| roofer near me | 165,000 | $24.77 | $14.27-$74.07 | Core |
| shingle roof replacement | 2,400 | $23.88 | $6.60-$35.09 | High-value |
| roofing company | 110,000 | $23.03 | $15.36-$79.86 | Core |
| roofer | 49,500 | $22.79 | $10.86-$72.14 | Core |
| roofing contractor | 135,000 | $21.08 | $11.79-$60.00 | Core |
| new roof cost | 9,900 | $18.02 | $4.13-$18.55 | Research |
| metal roofing | 90,500 | $8.58 | $3.75-$18.68 | Research |
| roofing jobs | 4,400 | $5.68 | $0.27-$6.62 | Job seeker |
These are 12-month averages. Roofing demand is seasonal and storm-driven, so after a hail or wind event, competition can push real CPCs above them. The top-of-page bid ranges (up to $79.86 for "roofing company") show how high the upper end goes.
The UK market: same pattern, smaller numbers
UK clicks are far cheaper, but the logic is identical. Repair searches lead: "roof leak repair" ($7.48), "roof repair" ($7.46), "roofing contractor" ($7.30) and "flat roof repair" ($6.27). Core searches are lower: "roofers near me" costs $5.15 with 33,100 searches, "roofer" $4.93. Research is cheapest again: "new roof cost" costs $3.73. "Roof repair" costs about 1.5 times as much as "roofer" in the UK, against 1.8 times in the US.
Two UK notes. "Guttering" has 27,100 searches at just $1.20, but many of those people are buying gutters, not hiring a fitter, so it needs tight negatives. "Fascias and soffits" ($5.84) and "chimney repair" ($3.93) deserve their own ad groups if you offer them.
Here is how the same intent compares across five markets:
| Country | Search | Avg CPC | vs US |
|---|---|---|---|
| US | roof repair | $40.95 | - |
| UK | roof repair | $7.46 | 5.5x cheaper |
| Poland | naprawa dachu | $2.62 | 15.6x cheaper |
| Germany | dachreparatur | $2.18 | 18.8x cheaper |
| Ukraine | ремонт крыши | $1.18 | 34.7x cheaper |

Budget math: what a roofing lead really costs
A $40.95 click sounds painful until you put it next to the value of a roof. A worked example for a US roofer bidding on "roof repair":
- Monthly budget: $3,000
- Clicks: $3,000 ÷ $40.95 = about 73 clicks
- Leads: assume 1 in 10 clicks becomes a call or form (10%). That gives about 7.3 leads. This is an illustrative assumption, not data - your rate depends on your landing page, reviews and how fast you answer the phone.
- Cost per lead: $3,000 ÷ 7.3 = about $410 (the same as $40.95 ÷ 10%)
With a more cautious 5% conversion rate, the lead costs $819. With 15%, it costs $273. So the realistic range for a US repair lead in this example is roughly $273-819.
Now plug in your own numbers. If your average job is worth $X and you close one in every N leads, each won job costs $410 × N in ad spend at a 10% conversion rate. If that is comfortably below your margin on $X, the campaign makes money even at a scary CPC. Roofing can carry a cost per lead that would kill a cheaper trade because the ticket size carries it. In the UK, at $7.46 per click and the same 10% assumption, a lead costs about $75.

Storms and seasons: do not run one flat daily budget all year. Keep a storm-damage campaign built in advance, with ads and a landing page ready, raise its budget for the affected area right after a storm, and lower it when the rush passes. In quiet months, shift weight toward inspections and replacements, where people plan ahead.
Campaign structure that works for roofers
- Separate campaigns by service and urgency. At minimum: emergency and storm repair, replacement, inspections, and core "roofer" searches. Add gutters or flat roofs as separate ad groups. Separate budgets mean a $47.01 storm click never eats the replacement budget.
- Tight location radius. Target the area you serve, with location options set to "presence", not "interest". Out-of-area clicks at $21.08-47.01 add up fast.
- Ad schedule by campaign. Run leak and storm campaigns 24/7 only if someone answers at night; replacements and inspections can run in office hours. Our guide to ad schedule analysis by day and hour shows how to find your profitable hours.
- Call assets everywhere, call-only ads for mobile. A homeowner with a leak wants to talk, not fill in forms.
- A landing page per service. A "roof leak repair" ad lands on a leak repair page with your phone number, photos, reviews and service area, not the homepage.
- Local Services Ads as a complement. In the US, UK and Canada, Local Services Ads show above search ads and charge per lead, not per click. Run them alongside search and keep your Google Business Profile in shape.
- Smart bidding only once conversions are tracked. Start with manual CPC or capped Maximize Clicks. Move to Maximize Conversions or Target CPA only when calls and forms are tracked reliably.
Negative keywords starter list for roofers
"Roofing jobs" costs just $5.68 - cheap, and useless to you. So are DIY and materials searches. Start with this list and extend it from your search terms report:

Car terms like "roof rack" and "sunroof" matter on broad and phrase match. Treat "calculator" with care: some cost researchers do become customers. For the full method, read our negative keywords guide.
Tracking: calls first, then jobs
For a roofer, most leads are phone calls. Track only forms and Google sees a fraction of your results and bids on the wrong searches. You need three layers:
- Call tracking: calls from ads and from the website after an ad click, with a minimum call length so wrong numbers do not count. See our Google Ads call tracking guide.
- Form tracking: quote requests and inspection bookings, counted once per real submission.
- Job import: send back which leads became paid jobs, ideally with the job value. With enhanced conversions for leads and your CRM, the system learns the difference between a small patch job and a full replacement.
Common mistakes we see in roofing account audits
- Broken or duplicated conversion tracking, so the account reports leads that never happened. We cover the typical failures in conversion tracking failures.
- Job seekers clicking ads because there are no negative keywords.
- No call tracking, so the main lead source is invisible.
- One campaign for everything, where cheap research searches soak up the budget meant for repairs.
- All traffic sent to the homepage instead of a page for the service searched.
- Smart bidding switched on before conversions are tracked.
Before raising budgets after a storm, check your location settings. At $47.01 per click, a wide radius gets expensive within hours.
Treat "roof inspection" ($34.78) as a lead source in its own right: offer it in the ad, book it on the page, track it as a conversion. It is the natural first step toward a repair or replacement.
FAQ
How much does Google Ads cost for roofers?
In the US, the average click costs $21.08-24.77 for core roofing searches, $30.63-40.95 for "roof replacement", "roof leak repair", "roof inspection" and "roof repair", and $47.01 for "storm damage roof repair". In the UK most roofing searches cost $3.73-7.48.
Is Google Ads worth it for roofers?
Usually yes, if the account focuses on urgent and high-value searches and calls are tracked. In our example a US repair lead costs about $410 at an assumed 10% conversion rate. Compare that with your average job value and close rate.
Why does "roof repair" cost more than "roofer"?
Stronger intent. "Roof repair" ($40.95) means a problem now, while "roofer" ($22.79) mixes urgent needs with quote collectors. Advertisers bid more where clicks turn into jobs.
Should I bid on "metal roofing" or "new roof cost"?
Carefully. They are cheaper ($8.58 and $18.02) because they are research-stage. Give them a separate small-budget campaign so they never compete with repairs for the same money.
How much budget should a roofer start with?
Enough for meaningful data. At $40.95 per click, $3,000 a month buys about 73 repair clicks. Start with your most profitable service in a tight area, track calls from day one, and scale what produces jobs.
